I adopt chairs the way others adopt lost kittens. We've few that match. We like it that way. We appreciate that each is unique, and each has come into our life with a life story of its own, just like the people who've come into our lives. |

I think that's what attracts me to chairs. They are so "people-like"... anthropomorphic with their arms and legs, seats and backs, and histories which are sometimes visible, always unspoken. To me they are the perfect metaphor for our human condition. They appear in my artwork in this very expressive role... speaking for the "universal" experiences of our lives. I enjoy exploring the metaphor, carefully choosing just the right chair's personality, and the appropriate attitude for it to take. I love "setting the stage." It is a series that I plan to continue. I'm always sketching new ideas. Some of the original etchings from the series are already out of print, so I know these resonate for many other arm chair dreamers! |
